A car crash claimed the life of an innocent bystander in Newark this morning when the vehicle she was travelling in was struck by a car being pursued by police.

Authorities said that 42-year-old Heather Clemens of Newark was killed when the car she was driving was struck at Dayton Street and Foster Street by a stolen sports utility vehicle while it was being pursued by police. Clemens was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators were still attempting to piece together events leading up to the crash. It is known that the vehicle was being pursued in Elizabeth, NJ after witnesses saw the occupants break and enter cars in that city. One of the individuals was apprehended but two fled in the car. They also left the scene of the accident involving Ms. Clemens.

Correction: The vehicle was not being pursued in Elizabeth. There was a foot pursue in Elizabeth after suspects were caught breaking into a car.
